Biography

Patrick McGrady has taught at UEA since 2010, delivering under-graduate and post-graduate courses on Creativity, the Business of TV Production, Film Histories and TV & Reality. Alongside his work at UEA he is also a practising film-maker and creative director of award-winning production company Wavelength Films. He has directed documentaries for all the major UK broadcasters, and a feature length documentary, Wagner & Me, which has been an official selection at numerous international Film Festivals and been released in cinemas in the UK, Australia, New Zealand, Germany and the USA. Before founding Wavelength Patrick trained at the BBC, directing films for BBC2’s arts strand The Late Show and working as a drama script reader and script editor in London and Glasgow. He later worked as a freelance documentary producer-director for independent companies including Diverse, 3BM and Planet 24. For Wavelength he developed and directed Stephen Fry & the Gutenberg Press, which was nominated for a BAFTA in 2009 (Huw Wheldon Award for Specialist Factual Films). He also series-produced the RTS award-winning show Disappearing London and executive-produced Suggs’ Italian Job (8 x 30’ for Sky Arts HD).

Patrick has served as an elected member of the PACT Council and of TV Eden.
