For five performances only, the University of East Anglia, in association with the Norfolk & Norwich Festival, is delighted to present the National Theatre of Scotland's multi-award winning drama Black Watch. Based on interviews conducted by playwright Gregory Burke with former soldiers who served in Iraq, Black Watch is heart-stopping political theatre at its best. Viewed through the eyes of the Black Watch ‘boys', the play explores the soldiers' connection to the war on terror and their relationship to violence.
The performance will take place at the UEA Sportspark in April, as part of the University's ongoing contribution to the cultural life of the region. Three intense days of rigging and setup will be required before the show can begin. With a forty-strong crew, four forty foot trucks and over two miles of cabling, the National Theatre of Scotland will transform the Sportspark into a specially designed set, ready for this exclusive tour.
Since its premiere in 2006, Black Watch has toured across three continents and received 22 awards, both in the UK and internationally. This will be the only opportunity to see the performance in East Anglia during its four-show tour in 2013. From Norwich, Black Watch will move directly to America, where it will play in Seattle and San Francisco. Don't miss this rare chance to see the highly acclaimed show.
