F.A.Q Changes to road layout on campus

Creation of a second exit from the campus

Q.    Why can't traffic in the Main Car Park use this second exit?

A.    The location of the exits and road layout makes it impossible for traffic to turn right when exiting the   main car park.  Infrastructure works including a roundabout (planned for 2008) as part of the INTO development will resolve this difficulty.

Q.    Will visitors be affected by this scheme?

A.  To improve the welcome visitors receive, the entrance from Bluebell Road will be for authorised users only (i.e. campus card holders and buses).  This scheme also provides an opportunity to improve other areas of traffic management including visitor parking arrangements.

Visitors can currently park in the Main Car Park, the Boilerhouse Roof and the Central Car Park.   With increased pressure on parking it is important that where a School or Division has purchased a "Visitor Parking Permit" the visitor should be able to find a parking bay.  Therefore between 07.30 am and 2.00 pm the BoilerHouse Roof will be reserved for holders of "Visitor Parking Permits".

The greatest challenge with any change to arrangements lies with providing returning visitor with information as we may feel this is unnecessary.  Please advise all visitors of parking arrangements on site including:

  • areas which are reserved for particular permit holders
  • the need to bring change for parking machines
  • where car parks are located

the location of The Lodge for help and advice

A.    The change of access to "authorised users only" Bluebell Road entrance and the need to stop at the automatic barrier should help deter "rat runners".  The situation will be closely monitored and if there indications that this is an issue we may re-instate the use of swipe cards at the automatic barrier

Q.    I understand the scheme is to be monitored, how can I make my views known?

A.     Alongside traffic counts we want to know how this experiment affects individuals.  Surveys will take place before, during and after implementation. We are looking for people to take part over the course of the experiment and although there is no formal survey form the sort of information and views we would like to hear may include some or all of the following aspects:

End of Phase 1 - Ahead of Phase 2

Have your expectations been met?
Has your journey changed?
If so, how?
Has congestion improved?

As we move towards Phase 2, what are your expectations of the second phase?
Will the ability for traffic leaving the Main Car Park to use the second exit make any difference?

End of the Experiment

Has the scheme in your view been a success for you as a pedestrian/cyclist/bus user/driver?
If not, why not?
Do you feel the scheme should be retained?
Are there any elements of the scheme you would change?

Please send your views to transport@uea.ac.uk.  or in writing to Travel & Transport, Estates & Buildings Division.  All views will be recorded and may be used in evaluation and monitoring reports.  Please tell us if you wish your views to remain anonymous.
