Walking is good for you! A 30 minute brisk walk each day can help reduce the risk of a heart attack and 10,000 steps a day is the recommended number of steps needed to keep in shape.
Take Part In Our Travel Survey Online Today.
As part of the on-going monitoring and review of sustainable travel and transport at the university, estates are currently undertaking the university’s annual staff and student travel survey.
All members of staff and students are invited to participate in the online survey which is being collated anonymously by the travel and transport team.
The survey has been designed only to provide a ‘snapshot’ of travel behaviour on Wednesday, May 2 only and will help to identify current commuter patterns and what changes there have been in these patterns since our last survey in 2010.
The survey should take no more than five minutes to complete and will be available online from 8am on May 2 until noon on May 3.
To take the survey, visit https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/Commutertravelsurvey2012.
We are actively encouraging people to walk to and from the University. It is by far the most popular form of transport for UEA staff and students with 36% of our community regularly walking to campus. We are sure there are many more people who could benefit from regular exercise and this inexpensive form of transport.
On average it takes 20 minutes to a walk one mile. If you live within one of the areas identified here, why not time your journey by car at the peak, don't forget to include the time taken to walk to the car, warm the car up or get it out of the garage and the time spent at the UEA looking for a parking space.

If you can't stop driving altogether why not commit to walking at least 3 times a week? It really will make a big difference to your health and wealth and will enable you to contribute to our efforts to reduce emmisions. The UEA walking map provides information on key routes to UEA along with a number of sample walks. The distance, time taken and the number of steps used our a feature of our sample walks.
