The Estates & Buildings Division can organise the disposal of your electrical items. Contact our Helpdesk on 2121 if you need something disposed of.
Electrical items cannot simply be thrown into the bin they need to be disposed of safely and in compliance with WEEE waste management regulations .
Estates & Buildings provide a free service to dispose of your unwanted electrical items that you have on campus .These might typically include computers, printers, faxes, kettles and toasters.
We can arrange for our porters to collect larger items(contact 2121) but would appreciate it if you could take smaller items to the post room situated in Arts 2 floor 01.
Please note that some electrical items are considered hazardous and licensed contractors are required to dispose of them, this will mean that a charge will be payable by you and you will need to provide a cost code/student account reference to our Helpdesk.
Examples of hazardous electrical items that need to be disposed of by licensed contractors:
· Fridges & Freezers
· lead-acid batteries
· electrical equipment containing hazardous components such as cathode ray tubes (eg. older televisions)
The licensed contractor that we use will charge on average £40 +vat per fridge/freezer. (Please note that it is more economical to dispose of multiple numbers of appliances and this will lower the charge of the licensed contractor. Therefore you may not be invoiced immediately and it may be at a lower cost.)
