What is Biodiversity

Biodiversity is the variety of life - animals, plants, eco-systems and genes- found in a particular place. High biodiversity supports high air quality, the climate system (e.g. through CO2 sequestration), water purification, pollination, and prevention of erosion. In addition to this many new scientific discoveries such as medicines are derived from natural sources. Human activity has caused accelerated rates of biodiversity loss making it more important than ever to look after the biodiversity we have.
