Our Biodiversity Top Tips
Enjoy our landscape and the biodiversity within it, but please…
• Be sensitive toward and learn about your surroundings. Find out more by reading our biodiversity audit.
• Buy Biodiversity friendly products e.g. Fairtrade and Rainforest Alliance Certified.
• Spotted something? Let us know by e-mailing sustainability@uea.ac.uk we can add it to our monitoring database.
• Report any animals or birds you discover in the grounds and are concerned about, call the Estates Helpdesk on ext. 2121.
• Be aware of your noise levels in areas likely to contain nesting birds or other animals. The majority of birds nest between April and September. If birds are singing particularly enthusiastically they are likely to be near their chosen nest site, even if it isn’t built yet. Please note that it is an offence to cause disturbance to wild birds and animals or to pick wild plants.
• Stick to designated footpaths. Many habitats on campus are undergoing improvement, and disturbance to these areas will reduce the effectiveness of this work – Stick to designated footpaths and help us to enhance our environment.
• Take your litter with you. Litter is a major nuisance on campus, it costs a great deal to clean up, is unsightly, and can harm the resident flora and fauna - please take your litter with you and drop it into one of the many bins or recycling points we have around campus. This includes dog waste which has a negative impact for fellow campus users; if you enjoy using the UEA grounds for recreation please use the dog waste bins provided and don’t reduce the experience for others.
• Don’t swim in UEA Broad. This is prohibited. The water is deep and can be extremely cold and there have been fatalities in the past from campus users swimming in the Broad.
