Risk & Sustainability Team including the Carbon Crew

The Risk & Sustainability team was formed in 2008 to bring together the work of number of individuals within the Estates and Buildings division, including Energy, Waste and Water Management, Building Management Systems (BMS), and Transport and Risk Management. The R&S Team are supported by volunteers across the University known as the "CarbonCrew"who give a little of their time to promote the issues and share best practice.

From waste management and recycling to promoting sustainable transport schemes and helping cut down carbon emissions, the Sustainability team is tasked with reducing the environmental impact of the university.

Next Carbon Crew Lunch:  12.00 - 14.00, Thursday 27 October 2011, Room 1.5, Thomas Paine Study Centre

The Carbon Crew volunteers meet informally for lunch on a regular basis to discuss good practice and provide support to one and other.  If you are not a Carbon Crew member but may be interested in joining, these informal get togethers provide an opportunity for you to meet other volunteers and understand what a Carbon Crew member achieves.

Carbon Crew volunteers engage and encourage all staff and students to contribute to reducing the University carbon footprint.  Volunteers share best practice by putting up posters, switching off lights, reminding colleagues to turn off computer and other electrical equipment when not in use.  Volunteers are allowed 2 hours each month to carry out activities and this can include attending one of four "formal" conferences or just lunching with other volunteers to discuss what is proving successful.  Carbon Crew members are also responsible for delivering UEA’s Green Impact Awards; an inter-university building and department competition, highlighting and influencing best practices and demonstrating much of the good work that is already happening.  Our aim is for every building on campus to be part of the competition.   If you would like to volunteer please email: sustainability@uea.ac.uk or visit: www.carboncrew.uea.ac.uk  where you can also make a pledge(s) to do your bit to reduce our carbon footprint.
