Who Can Apply?

Students in the Pyrenees
Erasmus placements at UEA are possible either in the second year of a three year programme or in the third year of a four year programme depending on your school. Some students on the three year programme may be able to switch to a four year programme in order to go abroad for their entire third year.

Students are normally expected to have achieved an average of at least 55% in their examinations at the time of applying but students with a slightly lower average may still be considered for certain universities if places are available, and assuming their school allows it.

Although a large number of undergraduate degrees offered at UEA support Erasmus placements, students on some programmes including those in Pharmacy and Medicine are unable to participate due to the nature of the course. Please check with the Study Abroad Office whether your degree will support a semester or full academic year under the Erasmus scheme.

In order to be fully recognised as an Erasmus student, you must:

  • Be enrolled as a full-time student for the year your placement is due to commence
  • Have completed at least one year of study in a Higher Education Institution prior to your intended placement
  • Be intending to study courses at the host university which will be recognised as part of your degree

Language Requirements

Courses at European partner institutions may be taught in the native language or English. Students hoping to study where the language of instruction is not English must have a good command of the relevant language. Not all programmes require fluency, as part of the reason students take part in an exchange is to develop their language skills. If teaching is un English, language should not be a barrier to becoming an Erasmus student.

There are also plenty of ways to improve your language before teaching starts at a host institution, such as language electives at UEA, Erasmus Intensive Language courses (EILCs) and pre-sessional language courses, for some of which students may be given a grant.
