My home university does not have an Erasmus agreement with the UEA, can I still apply to study at the UEA?
If we do not have an Erasmus exchange agreement with you home university we cannot accept your application. Unfortunately we do not have a fee paying visiting student course option for incoming EU students, only international students.

Am I able to take classes outside of the Bilateral Agreement?
Due to the nature of the Erasmus exchange programme, students are required to study within the School of Study and subject area of the Exchange Agreement between your Home University and the UEA. Some schools may allow you to take one module outside of the agreement on a case by case basis.

What is a full workload and how many modules should I list on the form?
The normal academic load for students at UEA is 60 credits (UCU) for one semester or 120 credits (UCU) for the full academic year. Each module at UEA is worth a credit amount from 10-40 credits, so the actual number of classes in which a student is enrolled varies.  Most modules are worth 20 credits and therefore, most Erasmus students will normally take 3 classes per semester. It is not possible to enroll in more than 60 credits in a single semester.

How many ECTS credits are my modules worth?
A full year workload is worth 120 UCU credits which equate to 60 ECTS credits. A semester workload is worth 60 UCU credits which equate to 30 ECTS credits.

I do not have an Official Certificate to show my level of English Language, what should I do?

As part of your application we require evidence of your English Language ability. The level approximates to B2/C1 in the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). If you have not yet taken an external test please give FULL DETAILS of your level of English, including how long you have been studying the language and the results of any exams (school, university etc.) which you have taken, and include a statement from your academic tutor attesting to the level which you have achieved (i.e. Europass CV / Language Passport). Remember that we need to know the level of any university English test which you have taken as well as your result.

Where can I find my UEA student number?
Your student number (SITS number) can be found on the acceptance email that you will receive once your application has been processed. You will also find it on your Offer Letter that you will receive in the post following your acceptance on the programme. It is a 7 digit number. Please keep this student number safe as you will need it during your placement.

How do I apply for a visa?
If you are not an EU National, you will be required to apply for either a Tier 4 Student Visa or a Student Visitor Visa. Only students studying for less than 6 months can apply for Student Visitor Visa. All other international students are required to apply for a Tier 4 Student Visa. You will need a Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) number from us in order to apply for your visa. We will need details of your passport number when producing your CAS number. Please see the following link to the UEA website for immigration information: http://www.uea.ac.uk/visa

How do I apply for accommodation?
Each year the accommodation for Erasmus students is reviewed. Single semester only students (Autumn or Spring) may be eligible for campus accommodation. If you are eligible for on campus accommodation, you will receive a link to the online application form for Accommodation. You must submit your form by the deadline stated by the Accommodation Office.

How can I access the Homerun list as I don’t have a UEA email address?
Email Homerun housing.support@uea.ac.uk who will give you a password. It does not matter that you do not have a UEA address – you do not need an email address. They will confirm with your school of study that you are coming to study here for your Erasmus placement before they send you the password.

My student number is not recognised on the online application form for campus accommodation, what can I do?
You have to wait at least 24hours after you have been issued with a student number before you can apply for accommodation using the online form. If the problem persists, please contact the accommodation office.

How do I pay for my campus accommodation?
You will be invoiced shortly after you have arrived with details on how much to pay and when you have to pay by. Please see the following link for further information on the accommodation fee task: http://www.uea.ac.uk/fin/studentsfinance

When should I arrive?
Official arrivals and Orientation dates are generally the latter part of the week preceding the first Monday of classes. Dates will be included with your acceptance letter. Please also see the Academic Calendar on our website.

I will be arriving after the official arrival and orientation dates, what should I do?
If you know that you will be arriving late, after the official arrival date you must notify the Erasmus office by emailing erasmus@uea.ac.uk as well as your School of Study. You should also ensure that you have arrangements in place for your accommodation. If you are in private accommodation you should have arrangements with your landlords or housemates. If you are in campus accommodation you MUST notify the accommodation office here at the UEA so that they hold your room for when you do arrive.

Is there a list of hotels or places to stay when looking for accommodation before arrivals?

Please see the following link to our website where you can find information on hotels and Bed and Breakfasts in the local area: http://www.uea.ac.uk/services/students/International/september10/meet/norwichhotels

Do I need insurance?
European nationals should have a European Health Insurance Card (EHIC). We do encourage students to take our Insurance for Travel and Personal Effects. International Students may wish to take further Health Insurance in line with their Visa status.

I need some paperwork to be signed for my home university, who will sign it?
It is likely that you will have several pieces of paperwork that you will need signing for your home university as part of your Erasmus placement. The Erasmus team, based in the Recruitment Office will sign your Arrival and Departure forms for your Confirmation of Stay. You will need to see your Erasmus Academic Coordinator within your School of Study to sign your Learning Agreement; the Erasmus team will not sign the Learning Agreements. Please see the Faculty Teaching Office if you need assistance in getting your Learning Agreement signed.
