Do you have a family or look after an adult dependent? Perhaps you care for a partner, friend or elderly relative in an unpaid capacity on a regular basis. Are you trying to juggle their needs or those of young children with the demands of your work or research? Would you find it helpful to discuss concerns, exchange information and practical tips, and gather advice from a variety of specialist sources?
The University has recently established a Network for Parents and Carers aiming to put people in touch with one another, build a list of useful resources and signposts, and generally help promote and support a healthy work-life balance.
The network follows on from the courses provided by CSED, 'New Parents at Work'and ‘Carers at Work’ which look at issues such as:
· Sources of information
· Parent and Carer rights and support
· Practical coping techniques
· Divided loyalties
· Flexible working
· Childcare options for different stages
· Tips for getting the work-life balance right
· Sustaining personal energy levels
Anyone juggling these concerns is welcome and you do not have to attend the courses first to participate in the network.
