Biography

I have a background in hydrological science and engineering with strong analytical and programming skills. My research competences include hydrological and hydrodynamic model calibration and uncertainty estimation, catchment classification, prediction in ungauged catchments, extreme value statistics, precipitation downscaling, hydro-meteorological forecasts, and impact assessment on catchment water resources.

In 2004, I obtained my MSc degree in Water Resources Engineering & Management from the Institute of Hydraulic Engineering at the University of Stuttgart in Germany. In 2008, I obtained my Dr.-Ing. degree (a German engineering doctorate degree) in Hydrology from the same institute.

I worked at King’s College London in 2007-2010 as a research associate in the NERC funded project “HydroClimate” within the Flood Risk from Extreme Events Programme. The project evaluated impacts of a changing climate on flood inundation for the Upper Severn Catchment in England. I was responsible for setting up and running the hydrological and hydraulic models, and estimating modelling uncertainties and future flood risk. 

In 2010, I joined the Tyndall Centre for Climate Change Research at the University of East Anglia as a lecturer in Hydrology and Climate Change Research.

Key Research Interests

1. Theoretical hydrology: (1) understanding of physical processes of rainfall and runoff as well as conceptualisation of processes, (2) development of a catchment classification scheme and regionalisation, (3) analysis of sensitivity and estimation of hydrological model parameters, and (4) non-stationary extreme flood analysis.

2. Ensemble hydro-meteorological forecasts: (1) development of a hydro-meteorological model cascade by using Ensemble Prediction Systems, (2) development of an in-stream nutrient prediction system, and (3) improving communication and use of ensemble probabilistic predictions.
