1st Prize for Alex Howat (4th year PhD) at the UK Molecular Microbial Ecology Group Meeting, December 2015

Congratulations to Alex Howat, a 4th year PhD student working with Colin Murrell, who won first prize at the UK Molecular Microbial Ecology Group Meeting in London in December 2015 for her talk entitled a Novel Marine Methylotroph of the Roseobacter Clade. Her research,  funded by the Gordon & Betty Moore Foundation Marine Microbiology Initiative, is providing exciting new information about the biogeochemical cycling of volatile organic compounds in the marine environment and the mechanisms by which marine bacteria metabolise methanol. The UK MMEG is an annual meeting of environmental microbiologists and ecologists which provides a forum for advanced PhD students and postdocs to present and discuss their research findings.
