The School of Environmental Sciences is one of the longest established, largest and most fully developed Schools of Environmental Sciences in Europe. Our holistic approach to teaching and research, integrating physical, chemical, biological, social and geotechnical sciences into the study of natural and human environments, is truly a modern philosophy for the new millennium.
In the 2012 National Student Survey, Environmental Sciences degrees at UEA gained a 96% satisfaction rate, putting the School at joint 5th in the UK. Teaching was a particular highlight of the survey, and as a School, Environmental Sciences came in joint 2nd with a rating of 97% satisfaction. In the 2008 Research Assessment Exercise the School was the highest ranked for interdisciplinary Environmental Science.
In 2005 the UK Government's Chief Scientific Adviser claimed that "The School of Environmental Sciences at UEA is the strongest in the world" and in 2008, the highly respected ENDS report identified the School and its roster of Environmental science degrees as one of the most influential environmental organisations over the last thirty years. These claims are supported by more recent (2009-2010) citation metrics from Thomson Reuters placing ENV 5th in the world for Geosciences and 3rd in the UK for Environment and Ecology. In the most recent Teaching Quality Assessment, we were awarded an 'excellent' rating.
