Virtual Reality theatre

The Virtual Reality Theatre within SSEVREL is one of the few purpose-built VR facilities in a UK university, and is unique in an Environmental Sciences department.

The facility offers seated VR viewing for up to 20 people, and comprises a 125° curved screen with three Christie Mirage 2000 projectors, driven by a Quantum 3D Independence II image generator. Active stereo presentations can be viewed using NuVision glasses, and support for interactive polling of participants is provided via XTol System8 wireless handsets. A control desk and PC allow a pilot to navigate around the displayed environments and control other displays such as PowerPoint presentations. Similar types of visualisation can be shown at external events using an Elumens Vision Station portable visualisation dome

At the rear of the theatre is an area able to host focus group discussions, with audio-visual monitoring and recording (plus an associated editing suite), as well as configurable furniture, and support equipment such as a standard projection screen and whiteboard.
