SSEVREL Facilities at the University of East Anglia

The Social Science for the Environment, Virtual Reality and Experimental Laboratories (SSEVREL) form part of the Zuckerman Institute for Connective Environmental Research (ZICER) at UEA.

SSEVREL comprises two complementary facilities: the Virtual Reality Theatre, equipped with a large curved screen, high quality projection system, and various pieces of supporting hardware and software; and the Experimental Laboratory, a computer lab set up primarily for experiments and surveys involving individuals or groups of 2-16 people. Facilities for holding and monitoring focus group discussions are also available. The VR facility was commissioned in order to build on previous work on GIS-based landscape visualisation within the School of Environmental Sciences, while the Experimental Lab draws on existing expertise in decision-making research within the Centre for Social and Economic Research on the Global Environment (CSERGE) and the School of Economics (ECO).

SSEVREL works with various other agencies and programmes, including the ESRC-funded Programme on Environmental Decision Making within CSERGE, contracts with external organisations such as the Environment Agency, and several areas of research (e.g. on coastal zone management and integrative frameworks) in the Tyndall Centre.
