Research Interests

Human impact on the natural environment generally, with a particular interest in climate change impacts on nature reserves/biodiversity/agricultural/rural land use. The development and use of 'scenarios' to illustrate potential climatic and policy influences on areas (recent work has focused on biomass crops, rural landscapes, and nitrates in groundwater); stakeholder engagement in policy development; communication of climate change and other land use change impacts through photographic & computer generated 3D (GIS-based) visualisations.


Biography

My PhD, completed in 1998, was a GIS based study which modelled relationships between plant distributions and climate to examine the potential impact of climate change on the plant assembleges of nature reserves in Great Britain. Since then I have worked with my colleagues in the Landscape Visualisation & GIS Research Group on a number of projects funded by UK government or EU agencies looking at a variety of issues concerning potential 'landscape futures'.
