Biography

I hold a MEng degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Oviedo (Spain), a PhD from the Spanish National Institute of Coal (INCAR-CSIC, Oviedo) with about one year spent at The University of Nottingham and Imperial College London, and over three years of postdoctoral experience in the UK, split between the Universities of Cambridge (2010-2012) and Nottingham (2012-2014). I joined the University of East Anglia as Lecturer in Engineering in September 2014.

My expertise lies in the field of chemistry and engineering of coal and carbon materials, concretely in the development, processing and characterisation of functionalised carbon nanomaterials, such as carbon nanotubes, nanofibres and graphenes for potential applications in composites, chemical engineering and environmental processes.

Key Research Interests

My research interests are in the relationship between chemical structure and bulk properties of carbon-based materials, which enables the development of synthesis, scale up and processing technologies for different applications, primarily high-strength materials and energy storage devices.

Other potential applications of these materials are in chemical engineering and environmental processes, including catalysis, separation membranes, adsorbents, and sensors.
