Subject Knowledge Enhancement Courses are available to students who have been offered a place with an initial teacher training institution - conditional upon attending an Enhancement course.

General Information for All Enhancement Courses

Bursary
A bursary of £400 will be paid on completion of the 9 day course.

Dates and Times
The courses run for two consecutive weeks and the dates are 1st - 11th July 2013. Typical daily sessions will begin at 9.00am, finishing at 4.00pm.

Session Coordinators
Sessions will be undertaken by our highly experienced Subject Specialists who teach on the PGCE teacher training course at the University of East Anglia. The UEA PGCE course has received excellent OfSTED grades in recent inspections and is one of the top teacher training providers in the United Kingdom.

Subject Knowledge Enhancement Course Content
Participants will begin the course by undertaking a comprehensive subject knowledge audit to assess their individual needs. This will be followed by a planned series of taught sessions, seminars and individual work tailored to the needs of the group to enable students to meet their own personal targets. To ensure good progress is being made, these will be monitored by the tutor and reviewed part way through the course and new or revised targets will be identified upon discussion.

Taught sessions will focus on the main areas of development identified. Other needs will be met via seminars, individual and group work and tutorials. Participants will have access to a variety of resources.

As part of the course participants will be expected to write up their own learning diary to demonstrate their progress to meeting their targets. Opportunities for reflection on learning will be built into the daily structure in the form of a final plenary session. Students will also be asked to complete a daily course evaluation sheet asking them to grade, on a 1 to 5 basis, the content, presentation and usefulness of different aspects of the day.

Record of Achievement
At the end of the course a summary report will be issued to each trainee's ITT provider outlining the learning achieved and a summary profile of updated subject knowledge and continuing needs. Participants will also receive an individual signed record of achievement outlining their progress and improved subject knowledge.

Venue
Sessions will take place on campus at the University of East Anglia.
