• Investigate tacit and aims and assumptions underlying conceptions of teaching and learning
• Examine the epistemological and ethical bases of educational research
• Show how philosophy is one of the vital interdisciplinary strands in thinking about education
• Promote innovative and creative thinking both in educational practice and research
