Faye Ledwon
I had volunteered in primary school throughout my degree and enjoyed the experience.
After my first degree, I worked as an Outreach Support Worker at a Children's Centre and had experience in Foundation Stage which really confirmed that I wanted to teach. It would also enable me to apply skills I had learned during my Psychology Degree. I applied to UEA because I could specialise in German.
The course involves an intense start to the year and then you are gradually eased into life as a teacher with two different school placements. It has been an unbelievably hard year; however, I met some wonderful students who have made all the hard work worthwhile. I have learned the key skills and knowledge required to fulfil the duties and responsibilities of a teacher and have gained confidence in my own strengths. The two school placements were the best part of the course.
It is a fabulous course; well organised and designed. I haven't had a social life or any free time to pursue hobbies but I have discovered more about myself and met other people with similar interests. The tutors are supportive throughout the year. I always felt I could approach them for advice and help. I felt that I mattered as a person and was not "just a number" on this course.
I would like to go on to complete my Master's Degree and become a SENCo.
