Dr Nalini Boodhoo is Head of School for Education and Lifelong Learning. Nalini teaches on a range of programmes across EDU including both the secondary and primary PGCE courses, the BA in Educational Studies, the Hong Kong PhD programme and she supervises Ph.D and Ed.D research students. Before joining UEA she taught in secondary schools in Manchester, Sussex and Kent and has been a Head of Department, New Teacher Induction Coordinator and a School Governor.
Research interests include language teaching methodology in the primary and secondary schools sectors, education in developing countries and cross-cultural perspectives on enhancing the learning and teaching of international research students. She is particularly interested in language teaching methodology and the changing role of MFL teachers in the context of the whole school curriculum. Nalini also has research interests within the area of education in developing countries, especially school effectiveness and school improvement initiatives in secondary schools. Her approach to teaching and learning is to devise and use stimulating learning materials and texts which encourage the active participation of students and which provide opportunities for them to develop critical awareness - the overall aim being to help them grow as reflective students/practitioners. This, she believes, is key to the development of academic and professional independence.
