Biography

Dr Lee Beaumont is a Lecturer in Physical Education and the Undergraduate Director of Teaching and Learning in the School of Education and Lifelong Learning.  He joined the School in September 2007 on a year-long secondment and was appointed full-time in September 2008.  Prior to working at UEA, Lee taught for six years in the state education sector.  Lee has also held a variety of posts within the coaching, sports science, and fitness industry sectors.  Lee’s main teaching responsibilities are on the BA Physical Education programme.  He also contributes to the PGCE (Secondary Physical Education), MA (Advanced Educational Practice) and MTL programmes and supervises research projects at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.  Lee is also the School's Deputy Senior Adviser, providing support and guidance for students across a number of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.  Lee holds a BSc in Sports Studies with Leisure Studies from De Montfort University (Bedford), an MSc in Sports Science from Loughborough University, and an EdD in Physical Education, a PGCE in Physical Education (Secondary), and a PGCHEP in Higher Education Practice from the University of East Anglia.

Key Research Interests

Lee is a member of the Physical Education Pedagogy (PEP) Research Group.  His research interests lie in the area of physical education pedagogy, with a particular emphasis on health-related policy and practice within the physical education curriculum and the promotion of healthy, active lifestyles in young people.  Lee’s most recent project investigated teachers’ and pupils’ perceptions of the delivery of health-related exercise in physical education.  Current projects include the quality of teacher-pupil relationships and the development of pupils’ health knowledge across the transition from primary to secondary school.

Teaching Interests

Lee teaches on the BA Physical Education programme and is module leader for Health-Related Exercise (Year 1), Inclusive Physical Education (Year 2 and 3), and Health and Physical Activity Promotion (Year 3).  He also contributes to the delivery of the PGCE Physical Education (Secondary) and MA Advanced Educational Practice programmes.  Lee supervises research projects at undergraduate (BA) and postgraduate (MA, MTL, and EdD) levels.
