yoU-tEAch

"yoU-tEAch" has been set up to facilitate school placements for students who do not qualify for a Student Associates Scheme placement.

Students unable to secure a Student Associates Scheme (SAS) placement may be offered a place on the yoU-tEAch scheme.  This has been established to support students who are enthusiastic about a career in teaching and are seeking school experience for their Initial Teacher Training (ITT) application.

"yoU-tEAch" is administered by the same staff as the SAS and offers essentially the same experience.    We have secured funding from the UEA Annual fund which will pay for CRB and our other costs from September 2010 for up to 20 students.  However, there is no bursary for the student or the school.  We are investigating funding for more than 20 students, but in the meantime we will accept more than 20 onto the programme with the understanding that these students will have to pay our costs (currently £50 per placement)

What we will do;

  • Organise your enhanced CRB check.
  • Provide an induction session before your school placement.
  • Provide a booklet to support your placement and in which to record your experience.
  • Liaise with your placement school if necessary.
  • Provide support and advice in connection with your ITT application.

What you will have to do;

  • Organise your own placement. This should be for up to 10 days. Please refer to the guidelines below about choosing an appropriate school to approach.
  • Complete the placement in line with the SAS goals if you wish to be considered for an SAS placement, should one become available.
  • Pay our costs (£50) if funding has been exhausted

Finding a placement school;

Schools are unlikely to have heard of yoU-tEAch, so in your first contact, it may be best to say that would like to volunteer as a helper and do some observation.

Schools should be in an area of deprivation, or at least a significant proportion of its pupils should be drawn from such an area.  Independent schools are unlikely to satisfy this criterion.

It is much easier to find a placement in a school at which you have some contacts, for example the school at which you were a pupil or one in which you have been volunteering.

Please avoid using schools which are SAS partners.  Most of these are in and around Norwich.  There is no reason why you should not complete your placement in your home town during holidays.

When explaining yoU-tEAch to the school, please refer them to this webpage.

If you need support in agreeing the details of your placement, please contact robert.douglas@uea.ac.uk
