The Centre for Counselling Studies

The Centre for Counselling Studies offers a wide range of training and professional development courses and is developing a research base. Since its foundation in 1992 by Brian Thorne, the Centre has achieved an enviable reputation in the field of counselling and psychotherapy. The Centre works in close collaboration with the University Counselling Service and the two units have common clinical, theoretical and research interests. This collaboration makes for a rich environment for all trainees and graduate students.


Programmes of Study

• Postgraduate Diploma in Counselling (accredited by the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy)

• Postgraduate Certificate in Focusing-Oriented Psychotherapy (certified by the Focusing Institute)

MA by Research, MPhil, PhD or EdD

Applications for the above courses are welcomed from interested people regardless of race, religion, gender or sexual orientation. Centre for Counselling StudiesAll courses will make every effort to accommodate those with physical difficulties.


Focusing Studies at the UEA

UEA is the leading academic centre for Focusing Studies in the UK. Our programme includes courses at all levels from introductory to doctoral level studies.


Conferences

The Centre is well-known for its hosting of international conferences in the areas of counselling, focusing and the person-centred approach, including the World Conference for Person-Centred and Experiential Psychotherapy and Counselling in July 2008.


Dissertations on Topics in Counselling and Focusing

A wide range of MA dissertations have been completed by students in the Centre.


Gendlin On-line Library

The Centre will be the academic home in Europe for this large on-line collection of the work of Dr Eugene Gendlin, the originator of Focusing and Focusing-Oriented Psychotherapy.
