Areas of Research

There are no prescribed areas of study for a postgraduate degree by research. Any economics based subject will be considered, as long as there are enough members of faculty who could supervise this topic.

Students are supervised by a team of at least two members of faculty with expertise in their area and feedback and guidance are regularly provided. Applicants should refer to the staff web pages and research web pages for our research interests. Members of faculty are pleased to be approached by prospective PhD candidates about the kinds of research they can supervise.

Research Groups

We have strong research groups in experimental economics and decision theory; industrial economics; and economics of public policy. The School of Economics is involved in two interdisciplinary research centres, the Centre for Competition Policy (CCP) and the Centre for Behavioural and Experimental Social Science (CBESS). These centres form an important part of a very active research environment and we actively encourage research students to participate in their activities.

We can offer PhD supervision in all areas of economics and welcome interdisciplinary research: we have links with researchers in other Schools such as International DevelopmentEnvironmental Sciences, Medicine, Health Policy and Practice, the UEA Law School and Norwich Business School, and one of our research strengths lies in work at the interface between economics and philosophy.

In the internal Economics workshop, research students and faculty present their work. PGR Workshops are held weekly.
