The School of Economics is pleased to announce the new degree, BSc in Economics and Economic Psychology. The degree starts in September 2010.

The BSc in Economics and Economic Psychology degree provides a rigorous foundation and training in economic science with crucial insights from the field of economic psychology, also known as behavioural economics. Recent and important findings from research show that many key decisions that consumers, firms, families, and organizations make are heavily influenced by psychological considerations. For example, research shows that decision makers are often influenced by various biases (such as overconfidence and status quo bias), loss aversion, endowment effects, and often care about more than just their own money preferences (social preferences and reciprocity). In order to understand and predict what decisions real people and organizations make, and to provide advice to them about what the best decision is, research has shown it is often necessary to combine economic reasoning with insight from economic psychology. This is the key purpose and rationale of the BSc in Economics and Economic Psychology.
