Sustainable Development

The School’s research in the area of sustainable development brings together staff offering excellence in disciplinary skills, including forestry, fisheries, crops, water, land, as well as innovative interdisciplinary study and policy work on poverty, environmental sustainability and development via concepts such as technology, justice and deliberative democracy.

We value undertaking grounded empirical fieldwork amongst communities in developing countries and working with other colleagues in the School, and those in donor, research and NGO organisations globally. Panel feedback to the School in the last RAE 2008 recognised the quality of research in this field: “Strengths were apparent in all three areas but particularly so in the area of livelihoods and environmental change”.
