Economic Development

Some of the key strengths of DEV in economics research are in behavioural development economics, the role of business in development, and social protection and mobile livelihoods.

We pride ourselves on our judicious use of methods, for instance combining experimental methods with both household surveys and ethnography in order to better understand gender inequality in the intra-household allocation of resources. In much of our research, we work closely with anthropologists, political scientists and natural resource specialists from DEV and through the Centre for Behavioural and Experimental Social Sciences (CBESS), with economists and other social scientists from the Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of East Anglia.
