Jacopo Baggio
I have mainly an economic background, having graduated from the Bicocca University (Milan) in Economic and Social sciences, and holding an MA in Development Economics (UEA). During my MA I shifted my interests towards system approaches such as assessing resilience of Social-Ecological systems and the main tools used in complexity science (particularly. network theory).
My current main research interest lies in understanding a system’s structure. More precisely, I am interested in exploring new practical approaches in order to assess the capability of a system to be “sustainable” and adapt to the changing social and ecological environment. Thus my PhD will focus on using the tools that the network theory provides in order to assess Social Ecological resilience. In other words, my main research question is the following: How can we integrate network analysis tools in resilience thinking in order to characterize a geographical-space' strengths and weaknesses, taken human-human, human-nature, and nature-nature interactions into account, so that we can assess its sustainability?
I am funded by the UK Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC).for European citizens scholarship.
I am part of the Resilience Alliance Young Scientists group (RAYS) (www.resalliance.org).
My supervisors are: Prof. Kate Brown and Dr. Elissaios Papyrakis
