Why a part-time degree?
Part time degrees help spread costs and work loads over two years. They are a good option for those who either already live in East Anglia or can move here and support themselves while undertaking a part-time degree.

How is an International Development part-time degree designed?
Our part-time arrangements are over two years – this means that the assessment load is shared over two years. Students take core (compulsory) modules in the first year, with a written examination based on the core modules.  They then take optional modules, and produce a dissertation in their second year. They have access to University resources throughout the two years.

How would my weekly lecture schedule look?
It should be said that our teaching and timetable are geared towards a full-time one year degree – students applying for part-time degrees should be aware of this. Please also recognise that our exact timetable is not finalised until just before semester starts.

In addition, optional modules for one degree are compulsory for another which means it is very difficult to generate a timetable in which all the first year's modules are, say, at the beginning of the week. In other words, we have to advise you that students cannot accurately predict which days they will be present at University. Even taking a part-time degree might mean the student has to take lectures and seminars at the University on perhaps 4 or even 5 days of the week.

Lastly, in respect of those degree programmes with a lot of options, students might find that they can make their final module choices only when the timetable is published.

In summary, part-time students should probably expect daily attendance at the University unless their optional modules, once the timetable is published, allows otherwise.

Who can take our part-time degrees?
These are mostly for Home/EU students who do not face visa restrictions. Please note that non-EU students who are in the UK on a student visa are not permitted to study on a part-time degree programme. Their dependants, for example husband or wife however, if they are here on a dependant's visa, may study a full-time or part-time course.

Where an appropriate visa is available then we will happily take the applicant on a part-time status, subject to academic considerations.

Which degrees are part-time?
Except one, all of DEV's degrees are available in a part time format – however, some courses may have more modules in one of the two years than the other. We are working towards making all of our courses part-time in the near future. Please ask our Admissions Office for more details.

Any more advice?
Please note - there are no evening or weekend arrangements to suit those working.

How much is a part-time degree?
Part-time degree fees are exactly half the price, per a year, of a full time degree, with the fees set at the start of the two year period.

Finally, if you are thinking of saving money, and are already working in development, why not take a look at our two-year distance learning degree?
