Research projects

The work of the Climate Change and Development group is organised into four research themes

Adaptation and Vulnerability
This theme examines the ways in which social and ecological systems are vulnerable to climate change and how they might adapt to its various impacts.

Policy Responses
This theme is expressly concerned with examining policy options to respond to climate change. This involves both mitigation and adaptation policy at local, national, regional and international scales.

Climate Change Impacts and Development
Work in this theme deals with climate impacts in developing countries across a range of sectors and regions. Key questions surround the role of uncertainty in climate change studies, the degree of exposure to climate perturbations and how environment and societal systems may interact with climate perturbations.

Climate Variability and Livelihood Systems
Work in this theme is aims to improve our understanding of existing climate-environment-society linkages to contextualise climate change that may occur in the future and to begin to evaluate the need for planning and actions for adaptation in the near future.

The Governance of Clean Development
This innovative research programme focuses on the governance of clean development, principally in the area of energy, and aims to generate insights into which features of the actors, institutions, and policy-making processes involved in clean development at the national and international are resulting in effective outcomes in terms of climate action and developmental benefits, which are not, and why.
