Research Project
Electricity, Privatisation, Regulation and Politics in the Mexican Economy
PhD Project's Description
It analyses the interaction between Mexico's political system and the energy sector, particularly the Mexican Electricity Industry (MEI). In other words, the project studies how politics have been affecting the MEI's privatisation process. For instance, how the different games played by the three main political parties, PRI (right of centre), PAN (right-wing), and PRD (left-wing) have been blocking the industry's reform.
Also, it studies how this situation has been affecting the MEI's regulatory framework. According to evidence found by the researcher, there is a serious regulatory failure in the industry that needs to be addressed.
In order to understand the political dynamics in the energy agenda, the project proposes Kahneman and Tversky's theory, Prospect Theory*.
