Biography
My name is Kalu Ibe Kalu. I am a PhD student with keen interest in public service delivery in Nigeria. Presently, I am studying at the University of East Anglia. I am investigating issues around service delivery and performance with respect to frontline public workers and more generally, organizational functioning.
Academic Background
I have an initial background in Agricultural Economics working as an Assistant Lecturer in Abia State University, Uturu, Nigeria. My academic focus has been about policy and social issues in a developing country context. I was motivated to investigate broader reform issues because of concerns to understand the transition going on in my country in public sector organizations function and service provision. While working full time, I have occasionally been involved in voluntary work with the World Bank Poverty Reduction Programme, Abia State where I developed a keen interest in service performance and the public sector. The crucial role of health: as the bedrock for the achievement of individual potentials and well-being, alongside the general state of public service provision in Nigeria, informed my interest in public health service sector.
I started my postgraduate studies at the University of East Anglia, School of Development Studies as a Commonwealth scholar in 2004. Then I looked at general issues about reforms in the health sector. So after graduation, I decided to further my studies to gain in-depth understanding in service delivery within the context of policy reforms in the public sector. This study is on-going.
