Horacio is a social anthropologist graduated from the Autonomous University of Yucatan in Merida City. He have an MA in Anthropology of Development in the University of Sussex at Brighton (2001-2002). He have been lecturer and researcher in the National Institute for Anthropology and History in Chihuahua, Mexico for the past 5 years. His research interests deal with community based natural resource management, Natural Protected Areas, indigenous knowledge, Fair Trade and cooperatives in Mexico, Social and Cultural impact of mining, forestry and tourism in indigenous communities and more recently with indigenous political systems and social and political exclusion of indigenous peoples in northern Mexico. His fieldwork experience have been largely done in indigenous areas of Yucatan, Quintana Roo and Chihuahua (with mayans, tarahumara and pima ethnic groups).

Current research

My research explores and analyzes the notions of political exclusion and adverse incorporation among deprived and discriminated ethnic groups of northern Mexico. The aim is to design an analytical framework based on empirical and qualitative evidence to explain the weak political representation of cultural diversity and its role in keeping indigenous people away from their understandings of well-being.

My PhD programme is funded by the Fundacion Cementos de Chihuahua, the National Institute for Science and Technology (CONACYT) and the National Institute for Anthropology and History in Chihuahua (INAH).
