Staff Profiles

All the permanent counselling staff are qualified and experienced therapists. Many are also engaged in teaching and research. In addition, counsellors-in-training from the Diploma in Counselling course (based in the School of Education and Professional Development) undertake supervised placements at the Service from November to June each academic year.

Director of Counselling: Dr Judy Moore

Judy Moore trained as a counsellor in the mid-1980s and has worked at the UEA Counselling Service since 1987. During the1990s she taught on the UEA Diploma in Person-Centred and Experiential Psychotherapy and Counselling run by the Centre for Counselling Studies in EDU. She been Director of the University Counselling Service since 1999 and is also Director of the Centre for Counselling Studies.

 
Staff Counsellor: Eamonn O'Mahony

Eamonn O'Mahony has several years' experience working with students and staff in Higher Education. He is a member of the Association for Counselling at Work. He has also been actively involved in the development of the Staff Counselling Special Interest Group of the Association for University and College Counselling.

Deputy Director of Counselling: Ruth Roberts

Ruth trained in the Person-Centered Approach at UEA and joined the University Counselling Service in 2006 as the Educational Counsellor. She has an interest in running groups for students and has experience of working in Higher Education as an academic policy administrator.

 Service Co-ordinator: Jane Ramsbottom

Jane Ramsbottom has been working at UEA since September 1993. She originally worked part time in the Counselling Service when the Diploma in Counselling started in 1993. She later also worked in the School of History for two years before taking on the role of Service Co-Ordinator in the Counselling Service in January 2001.

Secretary/receptionist: Sue Hitchcock

Sue works Monday afternoons, Thursdays all day, Friday afternoons and Saturday mornings.

Secretary/receptionist: Ros Montague

Ros works Tuesday afternoons and evenings, Wednesday afternoons.

 

Sessional Counsellors: Lucy Allison, Jean Ashby, Catherine Atkinson, Miriam Crasnow, Martin Langsdon, Dr Campbell Purton, Sarah Robinson, Joao Vilanova-Smith, Sharon Wilkinson.

Post-qualification counsellors on one year placement:  Frances Mitchell, Stuart Williams.

Psychiatric Consultant: Dr William Hughes;  Sumita Prabhakaran.
