About Us

The University Counselling Service is open all year round and an average of around 700 students and staff make initial appointments to see a counsellor each year. We offer time-sensitive counselling (usually 8 sessions) and also offer some groups and workshops. We have links with other support services on campus and also work closely with the Post-graduate Diploma in Counselling based in the School of Education and Professional Development.

Location

Our main reception is a small building situated in the central campus complex, above the launderette and next to the Dean of Students office (see Contacting Us).

Confidentiality

The University Counselling Service has a policy of confidentiality. Unless requested by the client information about those using the Service is not passed on to anybody inside or outside the University. In very exceptional circumstances, we may have to break confidence, for instance if there is concern about a person's safety, but such instances are very rare. Also, there are a very few situations when we are required by law to pass on information.

Opening Times

During term time, the University Counselling Service is open weekdays and Saturday mornings. We are open Monday and Thursday evenings until 8pm for students and Tuesday evenings between 5pm and 8pm for staff clients. Opening times may vary during University vacations.
