Self-Love: The Transcendent and Healing Power of Uncodnitional Positive Self-Regard


Rogers' theory of personality change advocates that unconditional positive self-regard (UPSR) is the crux component of therapeutic change. In this lecture we will delve into the profound meaning hidden behind the scientific terminology adopted by Rogers. We will explore the transcendental dimensions involved in the person-centred counselling process and how self-healing and self-love can emerge via the presence and communication of unconditional positive regard.

Beth Freire, Ph.D., is a person-centred therapist, trainer, and researcher. Beth is currently the Programme Director of the PGDip/MSc in Person-Centred Counselling at the University of Aberdeen. SHe has previously taught at the Counselling Unit of the University of Strathclyde for seven years. Beth was a director of Institute Delphos in Braxil until 2004, when she moved to the UK> She has 15 years experience as a person-centre therapist, both in private practice and in the voluntary sector, working with clients from a wide range of socio-economic background, age and ethnicity. Beth has also published several articles and chapters in English, and a book in Portuguese, abou the theory and pracitce of person-cetnred therpay, She has been recently appointed as a new editor of the journal Person-Centere and Experiential Psychotherapy and Counselling (PCEP).
