Educational Counselling

The Educational Counsellor is available to work with students who want to explore aspects of their academic life at UEA. Issues arising from academic work might be very specific or might have a wider relevance to a student’s life. Amongst other things, issues raised have included procrastination and loss of motivation, anxiety, time management, writing block, lack of confidence and intercalating / leaving. Educational Counselling can be used to look at the impact of other factors on study such as relationship and family matters, social and cultural matters or dealing with the transitions to and from university life.

The Educational Counsellor does not give direct advice on specific pieces of work but can work with clients to develop more effective strategies for working while exploring the thoughts and feelings around a problem or issue. Students who require advice on specific pieces of work can contact the Learning Enhancement Team at the Dean of Students’ Office who offer a range of services in this area.

The University Educational Counsellor is Ruth Roberts. Ruth trained in the Person-Centered Approach at UEA and has previous experience of working in Higher Education as a counsellor and administrator.

If you would like to book an appointment with the Educational Counsellor, please go to the Making an Appointment page.
