Policies

AIMS

1.  Develop a programme of courses with clearly stated aims, objectives and outcomes which:
   i. develop students' knowledge and understanding of and skills appropriate to, the subject or area of study;
   ii. are grounded in current knowledge, ideas, principles and theories whilst acknowledging developing concepts;
   iii. acknowledge intellectual and academic integrity;
   iv. encourage student participation and negotiation in curriculum design and course content;
   v. take account of students' experience, needs and evaluations;  
   vi. take account of the balance between the academic and vocational purposes;
   vii. use a variety of teaching and learning approaches;
   viii. use a range of appropriate assessment methods based on clearly defined criteria related to the course objectives and outcomes. 

2.  Develop courses and units that enable students to:
   i. identify and use relevant sources of information;
   ii. analyse, interpret and represent information and data;
   iii. develop reflective, critical, creative, and conceptual ways of thinking; 
   iv. demonstrate and communicate their understanding using methods appropriate to the course objectives;
   v. participate in discussion and debate in an appropriate manner; 
   vi. reflect on and develop confidence in their understanding and learning abilities;
   vii. use study skills appropriate to the subject or area of study; 
   viii. engage in/with original research. 
 

3.  Provide students with an intellectual framework and access to resources which enable the acquisition of knowledge, skills and ethos of particular academic areas alongside the intellectual, personal and vocational development of the student. 

4.  Provide student learning support and academic guidance.

DISABILITIES

The University and Continuing Education are committed to providing access to higher education to everyone in the local community.
