Computational Topology in Graphics and Visualization

LocationD'Arcy Thompson Room (School of Computing Sciences, UEA)
Research Group: CMP seminar
Date: 22 March 2013 (13:00-14:00)
Speaker: Dr. Hamish Carr
Organiser: Dr. Katharina Huber
Institution: University of Leeds

In the last decade and a half, topological structures such as the Contour Tree, the Reeb Graph and the Morse- Smale Complex have increasingly been relied on in computer graphics and scientific visualization. This talk will give an overview of this area of research, and of the tasks to which this form of analysis is typically applied, including protein comparison, direct visualization, analysis of massive data sets, topologically correct surface simplification and terrain analysis.
