As businesses and other organisations grow they develop ways of doing their work and coordinating activities. However, over time, as the organisation grows and evolves, these processes often become inadequate or inappropriate. At this stage, the development of the business may be hindered or stopped by its processes.

This short course gives an overview of the issues and techniques that can be used to change and reorganise an organisation's processes to help it develop and grow.

Course Objectives

The course aims to give an overview of business reorganisation and business process re-engineering issues and techniques The main topics that will be covered include:

  • Why redesign organisations?
  • The structure of a redesign project
  • Organisational redesign and IT
  • Benefits, problems and pitfalls
  • Case study workshop

The course comprises a series of presentations, with questions and discussion in the morning session, followed in the afternoon by a case study workshop and review session.

Who should attend?

This course is ideal for staff at all levels but particularly senior managers and business owners interested in understanding the issues in redesigning and reorganising their businesses.

Course outcomes

At the end of the course, participants will have:

  • An understanding of the structure and operation of organisational redesign projects
  • An introduction to the main tools and techniques for organisational design and business process reengineering
  • An appreciation of the relationship between process and organisational redesign and IT systems
