Biography

Recently appointed as lecturer in software engineering at the University of East Anglia, Joost holds an M.Sc. degree and a Ph. D. degree in Computer Science from the University of Twente in the Netherlands. Joost's long-standing research interest is in software engineering and in particular software design and design processes: What are the problems of the state-of-the-art design methods? Where do these problems originate? How do they deal with conflicting, vague and changing inputs? He has been actively involved in software design process research, and design assistance based on mathematical models is a key focus of his work. Most of his research has resulted in extensions to current design methods with advanced modelling techniques for capturing and reasoning with impreciseness, including models based on probability theory and fuzzy set theory. His current research interest is the application of these techniques in the context of software product line development.

After completing his PhD, Joost moved to the École des Mines de Nantes in France to work in AMPLE, a pan-European research project on aspect-oriented, model driven software product line development. His work focussed on leveraging his PhD work to the software product line context and coordinate work in the traceability workpackage. In 2008 Joost was awarded a Marie Curie fellowship from the EU to pursue research in dealing with partial information in requirements engineering phases of software product line development, which was performed at Lancaster University. After successfully completing the fellowship and integrating a number of research results into the deliverables of the pan-European research project DiVA, Joost has joined the School of Computing Sciences at the University of East Anglia to become lecturer in Software Engineering.
