Biography
Scott is a lecturer in computational biology. His primary research interest is the theoretical study of the physical changes that cells and organisms undergo during development. He is a member of the D'Arcy Thompson Centre (DArT) and collaborates closely with colleagues at the nearby John Innes Centre. He has a number of publications in fields such as fluid mechanics, biomathematics, protein function prediction and analysis and has given lectures on his research worldwide including the US, Canada, Italy, Sweden and France.
PhD Projects
The following opportunity exists to pursue a PhD with Dr. Grandison on the projects:
Nematic Liquid Crystal Models of Microtubules
Cytoplasmic Flow in Plant Cells
Career
He has worked for a number of large organisations, initially as an analyst-programmer, then in independent consultancy and finally as a technical architect. After his PhD he worked as a postdoctoral fellow at both the UEA and the John Innes Centre before being appointed as a Lecturer in Computational Biology within the School of Computing Sciences in 2008.
Academic Background
Scott has a degree in Physics from the University of Birmingham (1994) and a PhD in Mathematics from the University of East Anglia (2004). The title of his thesis was "Boundary integral equation techniques in protein electrostatics and free-surface flow problems".
