Each year we run workshops and activity days for students in a variety of areas related to Computing Science. The aims are to encourage learning, to expand students' existing skills and to provide an insight into studying at University. Examples of some of the activities available are listed below.
What we offer
We offer a variety of workshops including Robotics, 3D Graphics and Animation and Programming Skills. Our workshops take place either in one of our undergraduate teaching labs or we can visit you with our interactive robot programming workshop.
Below is an example of a typical days schedule, these schedules are flexible and can be made to accommodate courses over one or several days if this is required.
| Time | Activity |
| 10:00 - 10:30 | Informal introduction to the department |
| 10:30 - 12:00 | Lab session 1: Any morning session, could include Graphics or Robot programming |
| 12:00 - 12:40 | Lunch with our students |
| 12:40 - 13:30 | Tour of the University |
| 13:30 - 15:00 | Lab session 2, e.g. Writing a Computer Game |
| 15:00 - 15:15 | Conclusion |
When we do it
We offer these courses throughout the year and aim to supplement education without interrupting it. There may be restrictions during term time as our facilities must be dedicated to our students but by contacting us, we can arrange something around a date which suits everyone concerned.
Who to contact
For any information about these events please contact Dr Stephen Laycock.
The benefits
The benefits of attending these mini-courses are clear. The students experience technology and ideas usually not available outside an established educational institution such as UEA. These experiences may spark imagination or give a clearer idea of where these young people wish to go in life. It is also a valuable introduction to the content and environment of higher education.
