Career

Jan was at the Max-Planck-Institute for Plant Breeding in Cologne from 1990 to 2000. During this time, he investigated evolution of regulatory networks and morphogenesis with a special focus on the evolution of flowering plants. He also developed and implemented biological databases and other bioinformatics systems. From 2000 to 2004, he worked at the Institute for Neuro- and Bioinformatics, University of Lübeck, on information theoretic analysis of transcription factor evolution, transcription factor binding site detection, regulatory networks, and on computational models of biological systems. Jan joined the School of Computing Sciences in 2004.

Academic Background

Jan T. Kim received his diploma degree in biology in 1991 and his doctoral degree in 1996, both from the University of Cologne.

Key Research Interests

Jan Kim is part of the Computational Biology Group

Jan's current interests are Systems Biology, modelling regulatory gene networks (RGNs), the processes and mechanisms through which RGNs organise morphogenesis, and evolution of RGNs.

As a tool for computational modelling of regulatory gene network, Jan has developed transsys.
