Post-registration IPL: Half-day Workshop

Half-day workshop: Managing change with the vision to improve current practice

During the half-day workshop participants will carry out practical tasks designed to help them identify areas in their current practice that require improved collaborative working.  Participants will also learn about theory underpinning change and how this theory can be used when formulating realistic goals and managing change in the practice setting.

Although the intervention is facilitator-led, great importance is placed on the contribution and active engagement of each participant during the workshop.

Through collaborating with one another during the workshop, participants will acquire new skills that will help them manage change within their field in the future.

Course objectives

In order to reach the aim, participants will identify:

i)     What works well/not so well within their daily practice.
ii)    Areas that require change.
iii)   How they can initiate and manage this process effectively.

Course outcomes

At the end of the workshop, it is anticipated that each participant - in collaboration with others - will:

♦ Identify potential areas within their current practice that need to be improved.
♦ Increase their understanding of how they themselves can initiate change.
♦ Develop their skills related to information sharing.
♦ Set individual and realistic goals that are likely to improve their current practice.
♦ Explore ways in which to manage change within their own team/organisation.

Course methods

The course will be run as a half-day workshop and will include a mixture of short presentations and activities that will cover the following topics:

  • Information sharing.
  • Self and team reflection.
  • Theory relating to change.
  • Goal setting.

Participants

This workshop is targeted at individuals or groups of employees, middle managers/supervisors/line managers within the public sector (eg health, social services, police, education, county council, fire service).  It will give participants the opportunity to learn more about how to manage change effectively and how to improve current practice within and beyond their team/organisation in order to improve the overall service for the public.

Following this workshop, participants have an opportunity to bring along key people within and beyond their team/organisation for a more in-depth course looking at change management in more detail and specific to their own interest or need.

Interested in attending this workshop?

If, as a member of an organisation or team within the public sector, you think there may be a need to improve relations, practices, processes, etc, within and beyond your team/organisation in order to improve the overall service you provide to the public, then this workshop is for you.

It is much easier to appraise teamwork in collaboration with others, and sometimes it is good to engage in a facilitated discussion together with others with the same focus - albeit in a slightly different area.  Often, improvements in practice do require change and this workshop introduces participants to the initial steps of the process by working together.  You will realise that you are not alone, and that if you work together the load becomes less and you are likely to come away from this workshop with concrete ideas of what to do next.
