Alongside the American Chemistry Society (ACS) Journal Inorganic Chemistry, Dalton Transactions, the Inorganic and Coordination Chemistry Journal of the Royal Society of Chemistry, ranks as one of the leading journals in the inorganic chemistry field. Worldwide over 100 million tons of polyolefins are produced each year, and a rapidly increasing proportion of these are made using so-called metallocene catalysts – a multi-billion dollar business. The paper provides a detailed understanding of the chemistry of Group 4 metallocene catalysts, the role and function of catalyst activators and the nature of the active species. Knowledge of these fundamental chemical aspects has produced some of the most active catalyst known to-date.
