Funding boost for femtochemistry at UEA
Chemical bonds are formed or broken incredibly quickly – on the femtosecond (one million billionth of a second) time scale. Femtochemistry, the study of chemical reactions in real time, provides detailed insights into chemical reactivity. The femtochemistry group at UEA was recently awarded more than £1m to pursue new research directions in this area. Read more

Leverhulme Trust support for multidisciplinary nanochemistry project
Manfred Bochmann, Andrew Cammidge, Yimin Chao and Greg Wildgoose have received 3 years funding from the Leverhulme Trust to support a multi-disciplinary project aimed at constructing new materials from nanoparticle building blocks. Drug driving test at your fingertips
A fingerprint is all you need to determine whether someone is under the influence of drugs. Paul Yates from Intelligent Fingerprinting, a company spun out from the University of East Anglia in Norwich, and colleagues (incuding CHE's Professor David Russell), have developed a handheld device that police can use to detect breakdown products from drugs excreted through sweat pores in the fingertips. Chemistry NMR Refurbishment in full swing
The NMR facilities at UEA are used in e.g. determining molecular structure and conformation, studying reaction mechanisms and intermolecular interactions and dynamics. They are widely exploited across the Norwich Research Park to study small inorganic and organic systems, through to larger molecules including proteins, protein-ligand interactions and the interactions and function of membrane proteins.
