Other activities

There are plenty of other ways to gain experience in addition to paid and voluntary work.

Student societies

Getting involved in one or more student societies adds richness to student life and can make a serious contribution towards your personal development and graduate employability. There are numerous clubs and societies run as part of the Union of UEA Students.

The more involved you get, the more you are likely to gain. Consider taking a position of responsibility, such as society treasurer or president. This shows commitment and can be used as evidence in future applications.

A few UEA societies are involved in promoting relationships with employers and business. Examples include the Law Society, the Young Entrepreneur Society (YES), the Management Society, the Accounting Society and the Economics Society.

School responsibilities

Ask staff within your School about responsibilities such as becoming a student rep for your year group: this involves representing students at School and staff meetings. Other opportunities are usually advertised within your School by email or on noticeboards and display screens.

Sports and other events

Competitive sports can be a great way to expand your networks of friends and can also demonstrate commitment, self-organisation, teamwork and leadership skills.

There are also numerous social and cultural events organised at UEA to participate in.
